Gathering Family Together at the Holidays....

So how does one entice older teens to the table and to spend an evening hanging out with Mom and Dad?  Chinese take out and The Muppet's Christmas Carol, of course.  It also helps if you invite their friends, especially the ones who have never seen the Muppet's version of the Christmas classic.

The entire evening was my husband's idea.  I went to bed early Saturday night, exhausted from a day spent traveling to Massachusetts with my daughter to make tons of pierogi with the in-laws and her cousins, and awoke Sunday morning to a forwarded text alerting me of the evening's festivities.

It was a gift not to be planning the holiday get together.  So after begging off from that night's monthly gathering of my playwriting group, I scoured the house for the holiday videos, which I so cleverly hid last year.  While I never did find them (thank goodness for the local video store), I did find two snowboarding coats that went missing about three years ago and the pearl ring that my hubby gave me on our first Christmas together, which has been missing for at least three years too.  I also located the papermache Santa my husband made when he was in grade school and the clay sleigh and Santa figurine I made as a freshman, plus tons of photos and cards from over the years.

And now that I've replaced our three must-have holiday classics* with a last-minute desperate order via Amazon dot com, I'm sure to find the treasure trove of holiday videos that have been watched multiple times over the years.  (If I do, I'll simply have DVDs to hand out as presents...so if you're on my list, hope I find my holiday video box.)

Ah, the holidays. Such a crazy, magical, hectic time of year.  Now where did I put the stockings?  Oy. Who cares? As long as family's around to pass the rice....

* Our three must-have holiday classics include: Dr. Seuss's Grinch Who Stole Christmas (the original cartoon version), It's A Wonderful Life, and, of course, The Muppet's Christmas Carol.  What videos do you watch every year?

I watch all three of those movies during the hollidays too, they are classics! My mom finally found our stockings the other day, but she can't find mine! I hope I gave it back to her last year...

My family doesn't really have any holiday movies that we must see but we have holiday books, from when my brothers and I were young, that we still pull out every year. "The Night Before Christmas" (our copy is so old, I think it's from my grandmother's time!), "The Little Match Girl", and "A Bad Start For Santa" are a few of them. ;-)

My dad and I watch The Muppet's Christmas Carol just about every Chistmas. I have to say he likes the Jim Carrey version of The Grinch much more than the original, but I'm an old school kinda girl. A Charlie Brown Christmas is another must-see for me.

We just ended up getting our Christmas tree yesterday! Better late than never! The stockings have yet to be hung -oh well! They'll get up there eventually! I have found myself watching some sort of Christmas-themed movie every night since the beginning of the month, all of which are on TV! "The Polar Express", "Home Alone (1)," "Elf", etc... Love them all! :)

We watch those movies, too! I love them and it brings back so many memories. We also watch the clay-mation Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and Miracle on 34th St. <3

My boyfriend has not seen The Muppet's Christmas Carol! I told him he has to watch it with me this year, I am so excited! My Mom and Dad always watch It's a Wonderful Life and I bought A Christmas Story on DVD this year, that's always a classic. "You'll shoot your eye out."

We watch so many Christmas movies I can't name them all. There's a shelf dedicated to them. But of course we watch Rudolph and Charlie Brown Christmas. And Christmas Vacation. We don't have the Muppet's Christmas Carol; I haven't seen that one before. I like Christmas Carol movies though.

(The music I based my poem off of is "River Flows in You" by Yiruma)

I love the Muppets!!! The original Grinch is one of my all-time favorites, but I love Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, and A Christmas Story. That's a family tradition :)
